Chronology
Preceded by Re-Animated

Out of Jimmy's Head (also abbreviated as OOJH) was a live-action/animated television series. It was Cartoon Network's second live-action/animated television series. It is based on the live-action/animated telefilm Re-Animated that aired on December 8, 2006. The show is a co-production by Brookwell McNamara Entertainment (known for shows such as Even Stevens and That's So Raven) and Cartoon Network Studios.

The series premiered on Cartoon Network on September 14, 2007 to coincide with the release of the "Re-Animated" movie on DVD. Advertisements claimed the premiere would air at 7:00 p.m., but the show actually aired several times earlier in the day as "sneak previews." The show was the only show on the network to be affected by the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike. The series made its Canadian premiere on Teletoon on Saturday September 6, 2008. It also airs on Boomerang in Australia. The US run of the show ended with the airing of the show's final episode on May 29, 2008. The page for the show on the Cartoon Network website, along with the games and videos were removed November 2008. The show was negatively received from critics. Although promoted to be the "first live action/animated series on Cartoon Network," the show was not the first. The first was, in fact, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, which ran from 1994 to 2004; this was Cartoon Network's second original series overall (the first was The Moxy Show), as well. In addition, Cartoon Network aired Big Bag, a collaboration of both live action and animation, co-produced by The Jim Henson Company and Cartoon Network.

Premise

The series continued where the original movie Re-Animated left off. Pre-teen Jimmy Roberts (Dominic Janes) gets into an accident at Gollyworld, a theme park based on the cartoon character, Golly Gopher. He gets hit by a park train, flying in the air, to land on concrete. As a result, Jimmy needs a brain transplant. He gets the brain of Milt Appleday, the late cartoonist who created Golly Gopher and the other characters of his cartoons. Milt had schizophrenia, which allowed him, and now Jimmy, to see the cartoon characters in real life. Sonny Appleday (Matt Knudsen), Milt's son, wants the brain for himself. He plans to become a great cartoonist with his father's brain, which he believes would allow him to rule the world.

Production

Cartoon Network ordered 20 episodes, which were filmed from May to September 2007. In airing the show, Cartoon Network split the series into two "seasons." The first "season" of the show premiered in September 2007 and lasted 13 episodes. The channel later aired the remaining seven episodes as the second "season," starting in March 2008, one week after the airing of episode 13, which was considered part of the first season. The show's hiatus between seasons (actually between episodes 12 and 13) coincided with the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike, which led many to believe that writing on the show had been interrupted. In fact, writing and production for all episodes had been completed in September. However, the strike did prevent the writers from being involved in editing and post-production, including the controversial decision to add a laugh track beginning with episode 8, "Skate Night." Following the strike, the series was not renewed.
